2020 Lenten Outreach Program

The 2020 Lenten Outreach Program will begin on Thursday, March 5 and conclude on Thursday, April 2.

This year St. James and St. Luke’s will be inviting speakers from local service groups to provide a short presentation on their mission and needs, and to discuss ways we can support them (fundraising, volunteering, etc.)

We will begin each Thursday with a 6:00pm soup supper followed by a speaker, and a short Q & A, ending at 8:00pm.

On Thursday, April 2 the two parishes will hold a “brainstorming” session at St. James. Our objective will be to share what we have learned, and discover on which group(s) we would like to focus our support and the ways we may be of service.

Join us Thursday, March 5 at 6:00pm at St. James. The speaker will be Food Bank Board Member and St. James member Rich Hungerford.

This is just the beginning of what we hope will be a time of enthusiasm, joy and action! For further details contact the church office at (805) 238-0819.

Announcement from St. James Worship Commission

December 29, 2019

Dear St. James Friends,

I am writing as chairperson of St. James' Worship Commission to let you know why we are having a six month trial of combined services on First Sundays. After our Stewardship Sunday combined service and Baked Potato Bar, someone commented on how nice it was to worship all together and have fellowship time together too. That person suggested that we do that more often. The Worship Commission was listening and agreed.

We worked out a trial period on first Sundays with the changed time of 9:00 in order to have it be an equal change for everyone. With the intention of equality, we plan to alternate the services between Rite I and Rite II, with the possibility of trying an alternate service at some time in the future.

The following are the dates of the combined services on first Sundays during the trial period in 2020:

January 5, February 2, March 1, April 5, May 3, and June 7.

February 2 is also our Annual Meeting; plan to come to the Combined Service and stay for lunch. We invite you to come to as many first Sunday combined services as you can in this trial period and then let us know what you think and make suggestions.

Lucy Simola, Worship Commission

St. James is . . .

  • — An historic church
  • — A spiritual foundation
  • — A place of welcome and acceptance
  • — A conduit of beauty, joy, and grace
  • — A center for community life

Come and be part of St. James! You are welcomed here. St. James has been part of the Paso Robles community for more than 125 years. It is both a place of welcome, prayer, and growth and a vibrant community of people seeking to grow spiritually through prayer and worship, to proclaim the good news of God made known in Christ Jesus, and to promote justice, peace and love.

We seek to do this through . . .

worship
Worship is at the heart of our life as a parish faith community. The sacramental life nourishes us week by week and common prayer strengthens us day by day. St. James' Sunday and weekday services provide a variety of worship opportunities for members, friends, and visitors.
outreach
Our parish community provides a strong center for our lives and we seek always to expand our boundaries through involvement in the greater community. St. James supports People's Kitchen and the Saturday Lunch Bunch, the SLO Food Bank, and Loaves and Fishes.
education
We believe that Christian formation is a life-long process that nurtures us intellectually and spiritually, equipping us to live out our baptismal promises. St. James hosts both one-time and on-going educational opportunities.
parish Life and pastoral care
The fabric of our life as a community of faith is maintained and nurtured through pastoral care and fellowship opportunities. We seek to support each other in the life of faith: in joy and in sorrow, in good times and in bad.
buildings and grounds
We are blessed with a beautiful church and a patio and garden area that provides an oasis of calm in the midst of our bustling downtown area. Church facilities are used by a variety of community groups.
